ON Sept. 9, the San Gabriel Valley Economic Partnership will hold its Eighth Annual Awards Gala honoring outstanding leaders and businesses serving the San Gabriel Valley.

Every year I am amazed at the contributions of the individuals and businesses that are nominated to receive these awards. A few weeks ago, I used this space to talk about civic leadership and why it makes good business sense. Each of the five 2011 honorees clearly exemplifies this lesson.
