HEARTWARMING stories are the stock in trade of the holiday season, but it's hard to top the tale of Lance Cpl. David Battle of the U.S. Marines.
Battle, a 19-year-old who was Montclair High School's football MVP two years ago, was wounded last month in the battle for Fallujah, Iraq. He was shot twice in the leg while firing his machine gun at insurgents, giving his fellow Marines a chance to seek cover. Then his hand was mangled by grenade shrapnel. Battle and 10 of his fellow Marines were injured in the firefight on Nov. 13.See the full content of this document
