Summary
Members of the Sierra Club Task Force and many other residents of Montebello share the knowledge that the quality of life as well as property values in a community are enhanced when there is sufficient open space and parks. We suggest that there are other sections of Montebello which are flat, empty and in need of a commercial residential mix. We would like to see more attention paid to those instead of continuing to encourage speculation that threatens the last remaining open space east of the Los Angeles River to the Rio Hondo - our Montebello Hills.
Most of these Hills are unsuitable for buildings since coastal sage scrub is an endangered, extremely rare habitat. The Montebello Hills also support two endangered birds which need feeding and breeding space: the California gnatcatcher and the cactus wren.See the full content of this document

Preserve More Space
There will be many acres into which public access will be restricted. The remaining land includes unstable slopes and toxic remnants of oil production and so is more easily and less expensively adaptable for a natural park instead of houses and commercial buildings.
