LOS ANGELES - A Monrovia man was convicted of first-degree murder Wednesday afternoon for stabbing an elderly couple to death during a 2003 burglary.

The penalty phase of the capital case against Alfredo Montez Valenzuela will begin Friday, and he could be sentenced to death for breaking into the home of Charles "Clark" Shaum and his wife Bernice Shaum and stabbing them to death the night of July 26, 2003.
