It's a tough call, but I believe that the best interests of the United States will be served by allowing each state in the union to make its own decision about deportations when dealing with illegal immigrants.

Then, the U.S. government should reimburse either part or all of the costs of such deportations.

Let States Decide

Beyond that, the role of the U.S. government (right now) - that is, in stopping illegal immigration - should be only to seal the nation's borders tight and to temporarily halt issuing any further visas pursuant to a complete congressional review of U.S. immigration and visa policy, with an eye toward the future.
