AZUSA -- Schoolchildren and a police union are rallying to donate money to a veterans group to keep flags hanging along a major thoroughfare, but the former soldiers say they still want the city to pay its fair share, and took their flags down Friday.

During the week of Sept. 27, students from Valleydale Elementary will hold Operation Flag, a penny drive to raise money for the American Legion Canyon City Post 180, which pays and maintains 78 American flags and two POW flags along Foothill Boulevard between September and the end of the year.
