TOWARD the end of last year when I wrote a column on the positive message of loyalty exemplified by the film "Seabiscuit,' a friend chided me that I always focused on the positive, to the exclusion of reality. I'd like to argue, though, that by focusing on the positive, you're less likely to give up just because everyone around you tells you to face "reality.' In a seemingly hopeless scenario, by forcing yourself to look for even the smallest positive angle, you just may find a way to turn everything around, move in a new direction and give yourself a lead over the competition.
The wide world of sports offers tons of examples. All this spring we had hysteria as a horse with indifferent breeding from a second- tier racetrack nearly won the Triple Crown.
