Summary


Theodor Kollek, the longtime mayor of Jerusalem who died Tuesday at 95, was one of the last of those who helped found the modern state of Israel. He practiced a civility toward others that is all too rare in the Middle East.

An active Zionist in his native Austria, Kollek migrated in 1938 to British-ruled Palestine.
