The editorial talks in general about law enforcement attitudes and incidents that have occurred between police officers and people who possessed toy guns. It inferred that the responsibility did not rest with the children or the adults who play with toy guns and blamed the police officers "who are too quick to shoot and too slow to use reasoning.' It appears that not much research was done.

The only actual case cited was the 2000 shooting involving an LAPD officer who shot and killed a man "holding' a toy gun during a costume party. The article failed to mention that the 39-year-old man pointed the realistic-looking gun at the police officer in a threatening manner.
