BASSETT - A sheriff's deputy shot and wounded a suspected car thief after the suspect fired several rounds into the deputy's patrol car Sunday morning, sheriff's officials said.
The deputy, who was not identified pending completion of a department investigation, was driving along the 13000 block of Newmarket Street in unincorporated Bassett at 11:20 a.m. when he spotted a man matching the description of a suspect in an auto theft reported earlier in the day, said Lt.
