West Covina Middle School Students Experience Life of Civil War Soldiers

Summary


About 230 eighth-graders at Walnut Grove Intermediate School in West Covina got a first-hand look April 13 and 14 at the Civil War. They witnessed reenactment presentations by the Vermont Volunteers, a group of men and women who portray Union soldiers of the Civil War.

"We have so little time to go through (the Civil War curriculum), so this helps them visualize it, and it's more powerful," said seventh- and eighth-grade history teacher Vince Leighton.
