Bud Tucker, Former Tribune Sports Columnist, Dies at 80

Bud Tucker, longtime sports columnist for the Tribune and a pioneer in sports talk radio, has died following a lengthy illness. The Fullerton resident was 80.

Tucker, a native of Saskatoon, Alberta, Canada, came to the Tribune as sports editor in 1957 following a stint as assistant sports editor for the Star in Tucson, Ariz. In 1958 he became the Tribune's first full-time sports columnist. His columns appeared in the Tribune for the next 20 years, earning him several writing awards and syndication throughout California, Arizona and Nevada.
