Azusa Mining Plan Heads to Council with Commission's Approval

AZUSA - The city planning commission approved a new mining proposal and sent it to the City Council early Thursday morning.In a 3 to 1 vote, the commissioners voted in favor of recommending Vulcan Materials Co.'s new mining plan for the Azusa Rock Quarry. Commissioners Chris Dodson, Shawn Millner and Jess Alva all approved of the plan, while commissioner Debbie Kindred was the sole vote of opposition.The vote came at the conclusion of a marathon seven hour meeting that lasted till about 2 a.m. Thursday.

Vulcan Materials Co. has a permit to mine 190 acres near Fish Canyon. The company wants to exchange 80 acres of land on its eastern property line for the ability to mine 80 acres near its western property line.
