Area's Asian Americans Lag in Going to the Polls

LOS ANGELES - A report released Tuesday found voting rates for Asian Americans in Southern California lag behind the general population and, when they do vote, ethnic subgroups sometimes have very different opinions.

Although other studies have shown Asian Americans nationally and in the state have lower voter turnout rates, this is one of the few to focus on Southern California, said Dan Ichinose, project director of demographic research for the Asian Pacific American Legal Center.
