BOTH presidential candidates have now been bruised by talking the talk of reform while walking the walk of old Washington habits.

Most recently, Sen. Barack Obama's vow to reform the power- broker ways of Washington took a hit with the hasty resignation of James Johnson as chief of his vice-presidential selection team. It turned out that Johnson, the former chief of Fannie Mae, received favorable loans worth millions from Countrywide Financial, the company at the center of the mortgage crisis that Obama has been castigating. Johnson also was a champion of the excessive corporate pay that Obama has made an issue before economically pressed voters.
