Downey Man Killed After His Car Hit a Freight Train

INDUSTRY - A man was killed after he drove his car around a crossing guard onto a railroad and collided with an oncoming freight train. Authorities said the 43-year-old Latino from Downey paused right before entering the railroad crossing and made eye contact with the train s conductor.

Morning Bandits Target Montebello Store

MONTEBELLO - Police are searching for two men who robbed a market at about 9:20 a.m. on Tuesday, said police Lt. Govan Yee. The men, wearing all black clothing and ski masks entered Derian's Foods, 121 W. Whittier Blvd., shortly after 9 a.m., said Yee.

60s Slayer Penalty Phase Resumes Today

A jury resumed their deliberations in the death penalty phase of the "60 Freeway Slayer" today. Ivan Hill was convicted of murdering six women and dumping their bodies in the San Gabriel Valley during the early 1990s.

Jury Recommends the Death Penalty for 60 Slayer

Jurors recommended the death penalty six times over Tuesday for a serial killer who strangled at least a half-dozen women during a 1990s murder spree. Ivan Jerome Hill showed little reaction to the verdict, which followed about four days of jury deliberations in Los Angeles Superior Court.
